History

E.M. Brown Inc. has been in business since 1997. Formerly known as A.I. Brown Inc., our company was started by Abraham Brown in 1956. A.I. Brown originally sold carpet & furniture supplies, bed slats, mirror supports, furniture glides & tackless. The store's first location was 169 St. & Morris Ave in the Bronx. Our family lived behind the store. Mr. Brown was our salesman, going out to stores and selling to the trade. When furniture supplies were no longer popular, the carpet business began to boom.

Wall-to-wall became the hot new style. First we moved to a new location on Park Ave. Later we expanded to a 44,000 sq. ft. building on Boston Road.

After Mr. Brown passed on, we started a new company “E.M. Brown Inc.” at 711 east 134 st.

Changing times

There have been many changes in the floor covering business over the years. Many distributors have come & gone. The retail & commercial business has changed too.

E.M Brown has adapted to the changing environment of the times.

Stocking Distributor

E.M Brown Inc. sells floor covering supplies & tools to the trade. We are a stocking distributor with 20,000 sq. ft. of materials. We stock padding, tackless, metal, vinyl, adhesive, patch, carpet, tiles, tapes & tools.

Specified Projects

Contractors come to us to get specified floor covering for their projects. We handle all major brands of flooring products. We price your projects in a timely fashion and at wholesale.

We have a full showroom to do your own specifying. Sample service is fast, easy & “free”.

Receive & Store

We receive, cut & deliver for the floor covering trade. We can split the carpet or we can “bind” the carpet.

Convenient Location

We are conveniently located at the foot of the Triboro (RFK) Bridge & walking distance from the Willis Ave (Third Ave) Bridge. Perfect location with access to Manhattan , Queens/Brooklyn, Westchester/Connecticut & New Jersey.

We open early at 7:30 a.m. & close late at 5:30 p.m..
